Accessible Information
Policy
Our commitment. Northern Pride is committed to providing
clear and accessible information to everyone who engages in
our activities. We will also encourage others to be
supportive of individual needs, as part of our role in
promoting good practice. Our Role. We are committed to
producing well-presented information in both printed and
web-based formats and will do our best to provide
alternative formats upon timely requests. When working in
partnership, we will co-operate with the other
organisations to make the format and resources accessible,
and to adapt to individual needs where necessary. Policy
objectives. The main objectives of this policy are: - to
ensure that all members of the Northern Pride committee,
and any other paid staff or volunteers, understand and
endeavour to meet our commitment to provide accessible
information - to promote the widest possible access to our
service and reflect best practice in information giving,
whether oral, printed or web-based. Practicalities:
House-style. All written information produced by Northern
Pride should be clearly presented in Arial minimum size 12
fonts with 1.5 spacing, unless otherwise requested. We aim
to write in Plain English. It is also important to avoid
using jargon and to spell out acronyms when first used in a
document.
Inclusive publicity and accessibility
Our contact details should be included on written documents
and always include a telephone number, fax number, email
address and our text phone number, subject to our having
these facilities. This is subject to having office space.
Any document or webpage which includes directions or a map
for our office(s) and events should also give information
on physical accessibility, including parking facilities,
public transport, wheelchair access and lifts. Provision of
information in alternative formats. We aim to provide
information which suits individual needs and aim to fulfil
all reasonable and timely requests for publications and
other printed materials in alternative formats.
User-friendliness. Our information pages should be
regularly reviewed and tested, and accessibility issues
should be discussed with the Northern Pride Community,
Outreach and Diversity team before any large amount of new
content is developed for the internet. All content on
Northern Pride’s website can be viewed using the site’s
accessibility options and printed using the print-friendly
option, depending on web design. Publicising the policy and
promoting accessibility Our Accessible Information Policy
will be available to view on our website and can be
provided by email, fax or post on timely request.
Monitoring, auditing and consulting This Accessible
Information Policy will be reviewed on a regular basis to
identify areas of improvement. The Community, Outreach and
Diversity team and all members of Northern Pride are keen
to consult service users about whether we are fulfilling
the aims of our Accessibility Policy. We will look into
possible consultation methods, for example through feedback
forms, surveys and public meetings.
